Male Sexiness in this Modern Age: What's a "Real Man" These Days, Anyway?

In the past few years, Hollywood has recast the male Adonis as slim, bookish, and emotionally available. Some men aren’t happy about it. Where does that leave you? On April 13, 2021, Mitchell S. Jackson of Esquire writes: "You might’ve noticed that Hollywood has been remaking, or at least diversifying, the attributes of male sex symbols and, you could argue, manhood itself right alongside them. Exemplars of this en vogue masculinity are less the musclebound, taciturn, and seldom-emotive men of yore but slim, bookish, sometimes awkward, and empathic types, some of whom are daring against gender boundaries: Timothée Chalamet, Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes, etc.  Let’s unpack a bit, shall we? The fact that Hollywood’s new standard-bearers of masculinity are young white men shouldn’t be no big old surprise. (Jaden Smith and Tyler, the Creator touted as equal paragons? Not so much.) This goes back to eighteenth-century art-history pioneer Johann Winckelmann, who extolled th

Trial of the Chicago 7 Deserves the WIN!

Only NINE days until the Oscars and I finally got 'round to watching the film nominated for Best Picture which I’ve most wanted to see, of all the nine nominees !  The Trial of the Chicago 7 .  Excellent film, and if you haven’t seen it yet, jump onto Netflix , grab some popcorn and get ready for two hours of an extremely well-made political, drama, thriller. This film has been in the works for several years, with development of the script beginning as far back as 2006 when Steven Spielberg was onboard as producer. But the 2007 Writers Guild of America strike kept the film at bay for some time. Development of the script ramped up and down many times from 2006-2018, during which time there have been a lot of changes to cast, producers and directors including the exit of Paul Greengrass, Ben Stiller, Seth Rogen, Will Smith and Steven Spielberg - in the end writer, Aaron Sorkin took on the role of director and kicked some ass! With heavy hitting stars like Academy Award winners

Sneak Preview 12 HOT Titles from Netflix for 2021!!

If you love watching films on Netflix, this 2021 film line-up sneak preview video will get you excited! Netflix, once just a simple streaming site for previously produced film and television series, now leads the competitive edge as an international, corporate giant - not only in global distribution, but op-of-the-line feature film and episodic production. Growing rapidly each year since Netflix’s inception back in 1997, online streaming eventually has become the popular global choice over Box Office and Cinema attendance.  With the nasty Covid-19 preventative restrictions, curfews and lockdowns literally forcing the entire planet to stay home and login online, its no wonder Netflix has quickly grown to over 200 million paid subscribers worldwide and online streaming, as a source of content distribution, has become the household norm. To please its audience this year, Netflix is releasing a fresh feature film every single week in 2021. This 2 minute, 45 second video “Sneak Previ

Woes at The Capitol and Pandemic Have Film Sales Plummeting

With the decision in late November to veto a Christmas theatrical release and exclusively release the anticipated blockbuster 'Wonder Woman 1984' online with HBO Max, there certainly were concerns of harsh financial fallout for the film and any chance at production budget recoup.  Now as Pandemic restrictions tighten and Woes at the Capitol intensify, this film and many others are experiencing huge financial blows. ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Continues To Fall Grossing Only $3M in Third Weekend Amid Pandemic & U.S. Capitol Woes Source: ( Deadline.com ) January 10, 2021 Anthony D'Alessandro writes: Even if there wasn’t a pandemic, odds are this would still be a hard weekend at the domestic box office, what with all the distraction that came out of our nation’s Capitol this past week. Television news seems to be filled with enough suspense and cliffhangers with the Capitol Insurrection, versus the big screen, as we all cling to our TV screens at home to witness how President Don

2021 Oscars - What to expect: 10 Nomination Predictions for Best Picture

With the beginning of every New Year comes much thought, speculation and anticipation about the year’s upcoming Academy Awards nominations. Expectations and forecasts spin around as film lovers around the world are curious which films will be in the running! Theatres and cinemas around the globe have been locked down for most of 2020 and beyond, so very few of the contending films actually had Box Office exposure, if any sort of theatrical release whatsoever. However, most of the predicted contending films have been, or soon will be, aired on streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney Plus and some are even streaming for free on YouTube. Additional “predicted to be nominated” films, yet to be released, (Nomadland, Minari and The Father - all scheduled for release in February) may or may not hit the theatres and the accessibility to pre-watch these “predicted to be nominated” Best Pictures will certainly be different for audiences than in previous years. Also, with th

Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks Given - Number ONE 2020 Comedy on Netflix

I read his autobiography one afternoon sitting in Chapters/Indigo with a Starbucks coffee in hand and boy, it was hilarious. ( I Can't Make This Up: Life Lessons, by Kevin Hart ) Felt like he just told his story while someone typed it out verbatim.  He has a powerful rags to riches story, worth hearing - and the way he tells it has you roaring. Even when reading it! So I guarantee this stand-up bit will be hysterical! Watch VEEP Cast reunion tonight for a hilarious special

‘Veep’ Cast Reunites For Virtual Table Read To Support Voter Turnout For Georgia Runoffs Source ( Deadline.com ) I was unhappy to see the final episode of hilarious political satire VEEP back in May 2019. One of the funniest comedies I had seen in awhile, and as usual with the finale of all excellent series, it was hard to say goodbye!  Julia Louis-Dreyfus' antics and spin on being the President and formerly VP, are hysterical and with the equally hilarious ensemble of cast, characters and storylines, VEEP has been sorely missed. Now we have a chance to enjoy them once again! (Maybe only for one live performance episode, but Yay!!!) December 6, 2020  Dino-Ray Ramos writes:  Selina Meyer and the entire Veep gang are back! Julia Louis-Dreyfus and showrunner David Mandel have been teasing the virtual read all week which will feature original cast members and a couple of special guests performing the “Mother” episode from Season 5. The event takes place tonight at 8pm ET and h

Disney faces digital dilemma despite streaming success

Media empire must sustain its costly online push while its lucrative legacy businesses decline source: ( Financial Times.com ) 2020 has hit the film and television industry hard. Although compensating for distribution through online streaming sites appears to be a partial solution, Disney execs including Bob Iger explain why streaming is not saving the day... December 06, 2020 Anna Nicolaou writes:  The Walt Disney Company, in its 97th year, has decided its television future lies in streaming . But what happens to its past? Disney Plus has been a knockout success, signing up more than 70m subscribers in its first year to cement the Mickey Mouse empire as a serious competitor to Netflix, whose boss Reed Hastings had expected its new rival to secure 20m customers “at best”. As the group re-engineers itself around video streaming, giving up lucrative licensing revenue, it must also manage the decline of its ageing TV channels and movie studios. Taking the long view, Bob Iger , ex
