Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks Given - Number ONE 2020 Comedy on Netflix

I read his autobiography one afternoon sitting in Chapters/Indigo with a Starbucks coffee in hand and boy, it was hilarious. ( I Can't Make This Up: Life Lessons, by Kevin Hart ) Felt like he just told his story while someone typed it out verbatim.  He has a powerful rags to riches story, worth hearing - and the way he tells it has you roaring. Even when reading it! So I guarantee this stand-up bit will be hysterical! Watch VEEP Cast reunion tonight for a hilarious special

‘Veep’ Cast Reunites For Virtual Table Read To Support Voter Turnout For Georgia Runoffs Source ( Deadline.com ) I was unhappy to see the final episode of hilarious political satire VEEP back in May 2019. One of the funniest comedies I had seen in awhile, and as usual with the finale of all excellent series, it was hard to say goodbye!  Julia Louis-Dreyfus' antics and spin on being the President and formerly VP, are hysterical and with the equally hilarious ensemble of cast, characters and storylines, VEEP has been sorely missed. Now we have a chance to enjoy them once again! (Maybe only for one live performance episode, but Yay!!!) December 6, 2020  Dino-Ray Ramos writes:  Selina Meyer and the entire Veep gang are back! Julia Louis-Dreyfus and showrunner David Mandel have been teasing the virtual read all week which will feature original cast members and a couple of special guests performing the “Mother” episode from Season 5. The event takes place tonight at 8pm ET and h

Disney faces digital dilemma despite streaming success

Media empire must sustain its costly online push while its lucrative legacy businesses decline source: ( Financial Times.com ) 2020 has hit the film and television industry hard. Although compensating for distribution through online streaming sites appears to be a partial solution, Disney execs including Bob Iger explain why streaming is not saving the day... December 06, 2020 Anna Nicolaou writes:  The Walt Disney Company, in its 97th year, has decided its television future lies in streaming . But what happens to its past? Disney Plus has been a knockout success, signing up more than 70m subscribers in its first year to cement the Mickey Mouse empire as a serious competitor to Netflix, whose boss Reed Hastings had expected its new rival to secure 20m customers “at best”. As the group re-engineers itself around video streaming, giving up lucrative licensing revenue, it must also manage the decline of its ageing TV channels and movie studios. Taking the long view, Bob Iger , ex

Tom Hanks Talks about His Bout with Coronavirus

Tom Hanks on Surviving Coronavirus: ‘I Had Crippling Body Aches, Fatigue and Couldn’t Concentrate’ The world’s most relatable megastar talks about his Covid-19 experience, his fears for the future, and whether he’s really just so gosh darned nice. Source: ( getpocket.com ) December 4, 2020 Hadley Freeman writes: “Welcome to the future, Hadley!” Tom Hanks says from my computer screen, as he makes a quick glance to the right of his own to check my name. “Can you remember the last time you felt comfortable running around with other people?” he asks. I tell him it was probably the last time I saw him, which was when we were at the Academy Awards in February, where he had ratcheted up his sixth Oscar nomination, for his performance as beloved US children’s TV host Fred Rogers, in the film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood . “Remember those carefree days of the Academy Awards? It was like, what’s that place in Italy underneath the mountain tha

Deadpool 3 Sequel writers secured: The Molyneux Sisters!

Bob’s Burgers' Emmy-Award-winning writers Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux have been hired to write the script for the upcoming Deadpool 3 , starring Ryan Reynolds . The sisters are longtime collaborators and are also creators, showrunners and executive producers on the animated comedy The Great North , which has earned a second-season renewal ahead of its February 2021 premiere. Variety reports that Reynolds, who produces as well as stars in the franchise, was key in choosing the Molyneuxs to write the script. The third film will be the first in the franchise to be made under the Marvel umbrella, which Reynolds called the “big leagues” when he officially announced the film last year on Live With Ryan and Kelly . According to Deadline , Ryan Reynolds and Disney-owned Marvel Studios have tapped Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to pen the script for “Deadpool 3,” with Reynolds reprising his fan favorite role as the foul-mouthed superhero. The Molyneux sisters are the creators of the new Fox animated series “The Great North,” a gig they picked up after scoring an Emmy as writers and executive producers of Fox’s “Bob’s Burgers.” Deadline reports: “Writer meetings have been taking place over the past month with Reynolds recently meeting with a handful of writers to hear their pitch for the next installment. In the end, the stu

The Difficult And Expensive Reality Of Filming TV Series Amid The Pandemic

After months of brainstorming and negotiations, the Hollywood studios and unions adopted rigorous safety protocols to get TV production going again. And, with fits and starts, it has been going, churning out fresh content with original episodes hitting the air first with the soaps in daytime, followed by unscripted and then scripted series in primetime. Source: Deadline.com November 20, 2020  Nellie Andreeva  writes: But it has not been easy. And it has been expensive. So far, the safety procedures are largely working. There have been many positive COVID tests — both real positives and false positives. There also have been production shutdowns, though no reports of fatalities or seriously ill cast or crew members. (The Good Doctor‘s Richard Schiff is the only known main cast member on a series to be hospitalized with COVID, and he is on the mend.) At least in part as recognition for the entertainment industry’s efforts, it was given an exemption from California Gov. Gavin Newsom ’s n

Gillian Anderson Signs With UTA

EXCLUSIVE : Gillian Anderson , who can be seen on Netflix’s The Crown as Margaret Thatcher, has signed with UTA . source:( deadline.com ) Loved her, obviously as Dana Scully in The X-Files a couple decades back, but she shines in so many new works including Sex Education and now, The Crown. Let's see what UTA (USA agency) will do to pump up her career even more! November 20, 2020 Peter White writes: The Hollywood talent agency has signed the actress, who broke through in Fox’s The X-Files , in all areas. Deadline understands that Anderson had been without a U.S. agent but over the course of her career has been represented by WME and CAA. It is a hot signing for UTA with Anderson scoring plaudits for her role in the British royal drama. She stars as the former Prime Minister alongside Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham-Carter in the fourth season of the show, which was created by Peter Morgan. Anderson told Deadline earlier this year that she never hesitated at the prospect o

No Big Screen for 'WonderWoman 1984' this Christmas - see you on HBO Max

No Theatre for Christmas this year... and Wonder Woman 1984 filmmakers will likely suffer financially. But it seems, for Warner Bros., it was the best option to simply release this year's hottest anticipated blockbuster solely on HBO Max. "Though the film is forgoing substantial box office returns and will likely end up losing money — “Wonder Woman” cost $200 million to make and many millions more to market globally — leaning into the HBO Max of things became the best option because it allowed them to get the movie out in a timely manner while promoting a streaming service that’s struggled to make waves." source ( Variety.com ) November 19, 2020 Rebecca Rubin writes: Warner Bros. didn’t have a lot of good options. After the studio released Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” in September to lackluster ticket sales , it was hesitant to unveil another $200 million-budgeted movie in the middle of a pandemic. And yet, just three months after “Tenet” tried and largely failed

Five Ways to Create a Title that Doesn't Bomb

By: Hazel Hoyle The title of your screenplay can make or break your chances of catching the attention of a producer who will agree to read (and hopefully produce) your script. At first glance, a title has to be catchy, memorable, repeatable and should sum up the essence of the storyline premise. Quite often, the shorter the title, the better. Can you imagine a producer passing on your fabulous literary material because the title doesn't grab him/her, or because it sounds stupid? What a shame, right! Did you know ' That 70s Show ' wasn't the original title of the successful television series? In fact, they went through several titles trying to capture the essence of the show before finally landing on the iconic show title 'That 70s Show'.  It's an interesting story, check it out here .  Don't hit a wall because you can't come up with a great title.  Stephanie Palmer , former MGM executive tells us a quick way to remember what the title needs in order

‘That ’70s Show’ Is Iconic But Originally Had a Very Different Name

That ’70s Show   was one of  Fox’s biggest sitcom  in the years after its flagship comedy  Married with Children   went off the air. As the title suggests, the program was a riff on the 1970s through America’s topical lens in the late 90s and early 00s. However,  despite an iconic name  that gives away the show’s entire thesis, the original title may have made it harder to sell to a broad audience.  Source: ( Showbiz Cheatsheet ) November 16, 2020 Zack Willis writes What is ‘That ’70s Show’?  At its core,  That ’70s Show  had a simple premise . A group of teenagers went through life while learning about the struggles of growing up in a show that stretched from the end of Vietnam to the onset of the Reagan administration. At its start, the show featured many unknown actors, but by the end, it made many different stars.  Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who went on to marry and have a family after the show went off the air, were the cast’s biggest success stories. But the other

10 Best Characters written by Aaron Sorkin!

With Oscar Nominations around the corner and writer/director Aaron Sorkin beaming solid as a forerunner for his most recent success - The Trial of the Chicago 7, I thought it would be fun to take a look at Sorkin's highest ranking characters.  Aaron Sorkin's 10 Best Characters, Ranked.  Source:( ScreenRant.com ) Nov. 02, 2020,  Joe Antonini  writes: Oscar and Emmy nominees abound, big-name Hollywood stars aplenty, these are the characters who have leaped farthest from Sorkin's pages. Aaron Sorkin is one of the most exciting screenwriters and directors in Hollywood. He has worked in political thrillers, sports stories, and military escapades. What's most notably remarkable about his work is that much of what you see on screen is people talking . Forget explosions, magic, and sex, when it comes to Sorkin, people talking is more than enough entertainment. This list celebrates the very best of those people . Often within ensemble

Will Sorkin's 'Trial of the Chicago 7' Hog the Oscars?

Oscars Supporting Actor and Actress Predictions: Will ‘Trial of the Chicago 7’ Hog the Nominations? Source: ( thewrap.com ) Nov. 06, 2020 1:12 PM Steve Pond wrote: Contenders include a mixture of recent Oscar and Emmy winners (Olivia Colman, Mark Rylance) and names voters wouldn’t have known a few months ago ( Maria Bakalova , Yuh-Jung Youn ) Like this year’s Best Actress and Best Actor Oscar races, which we wrote about here, the contenders in the supporting categories are also a mixture of past winners and newcomers. The pool of potential nominees includes past Oscar winners Mark Rylance and Eddie Redmayne and recent Emmy champs Jeremy Strong and Yahya Abdul-Mateen, along with Michael Keaton , Frank Langella , Joseph Gordon Levitt and Sacha Baron Cohen — and that’s just the cast of Aaron Sorkin ’s “ The Trial of the Chicago 7 ,” which could completely fill the Best Supporting Actor category and still have people left over. On the Best Supporting Actress side, where “Chicag

Bette Midler, Meryl Streep & Mariah Carey grace the stage. Oct 30!

Bette Midler, Meryl Streep and Mariah Carey Featured in Starry ‘Hocus Pocus’ Reunion Fundraiser source: ( variety.com ) Oct 30, 2020 at 6:11 PM, Natalie Oganesyan writes: The cast of “ Hocus Pocus ” reunited to conjure up funds for the New York Restoration Project , a nonprofit founded by Bette Midler that aims to create a greener and more sustainable New York City. The virtual Hulaween benefit, “In Search of The Sanderson Sisters, A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover,” took place Friday, with stars of the cult classic Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy reprising their roles (and outfits) for the hour-long witchy event. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, the horror hostess depicted by Cassandra Peterson , emceed the mockumentary show, which explored the three sisters’ history, answering questions about their ancestry, education, music careers, fateful love affairs and more. If 2020 were a TV script, how would it end??

We all can agree 2020 has been an unprecedented year around the globe. The Covid-19 Pandemic spread chaos and the unknown into full throttle across the planet and it certainly has opened floodgates for new story ideas. 2020 reads like a TV script. So we asked screenwriters how it should end.  Source: (The Washington Post) October 27, 2020; 3:00am Maura Judkis of The Washington Post writes: If 2020 were a TV show, the first draft would be terrible. The premise is promising — what happens when political dysfunction meets a deadly virus? — but the execution needs work. Think about how messy it all has been: competing plotlines, too-abrupt soap opera twists, one-dimensional villains, stories introduced and then just as quickly dropped. Like it or not, we’re barreling toward the finale, and no one knows what’s going to happen in the last episode. Will there be a satisfying ending? Or one of those unsettling, ambiguous ones that gnaws at you long after you’ve finished the show? Wi

Zoolander remains intact - no editing out Donald Trump - Nice work Ben Stiller!!

Sorry, Ben Stiller Won’t Be Editing Donald Trump Out of Zoolander source: (vulture.com) July 12, 2020 Halle Kiefer writes:  " Ben Stiller has heard your cry (or, at least, somebody’s cry) to edit Donald Trump from his hit 2001 comedy. He hears it and he is going to go ahead and let you down easy: It’s not happening. “I’ve had people reach out to me and say, you should edit Donald Trump out of Zoolander,” the actor told the Daily Beast’s podcast The New Abnormal recently. “But at the end of the day, that was a time when that exists, and that happened.” For those of you who haven’t seen Zoolander in a hot minute, Trump’s split-second cameo is one of numerous celebrity appearances praising the incomprehensibly dumb, genetically gifted titular protagonist. “Without Derek Zoolander, male modeling wouldn’t be what it is today,” the current president of the United States declares. “There were so many movies that had a silly c
